From a mother to Cassiopeia

From a Mother to Cassiopeia
- August 25, 2010 -

Hello everybody. I am a mother of a Cassiopeia and this was written quite a while ago…

My daughter pretty much never switches off her computer, she spends all day every day on Korean sites or here on Baidu, surfing the web.

I’m sure there are a lot of people here who like TVXQ as much as my daughter does, if not more.

My daughter is 16 years old. Back when she was 12 years old, I remember her buying a TVXQ album and sneaking it home. Four years have passed and many things have happened…

Ah.. My daughter, sometimes she sits in her room crying, other times laughing. Whenever we’re sat around the table at dinner, she’ll jabber on and on about TVXQ, about Yunho to me and her dad. It’s almost as though she’s gone insane.

Every now and then, she’ll talk to me about going to Korea for days and days. I remember her telling me you fans were organizing some kind of group dance this summer? (flashmob) When she was young, we used to send her everywhere and pick her up afterwards. She rarely goes on public transport because our home is simply too far away from the city. I still remember her excitement when I agreed to let her go to practice sessions for the flashmob. Her father said ‘Will you be dancing to songs of TVXQ? Don’t muck up and embarrass yourself~’ I nearly laughed.

That morning, she went off with her friends to catch the bus and still hadn’t come home after 6. I panicked. She wasn’t picking up her phone, and it wasn’t until 7 that she was finally home. Her father said in relief ‘I thought you wouldn’t be able to make it, but you managed to get back yourself’ And from then on, she went to dance practices every week, and sometimes she’d even practice in front of us. I’ve never seen her take anything so seriously before.

I remember once last year, when we were having dinner, she was arguing over something with her dad… I think it was about TVXQ. She said she wasn’t going to eat and was absolutely fuming. I kept asking, but she paid no attention to me. In the end, I found out that she’d wanted to see TVXQ in Shanghai.

In early April this year, I noticed how she seemed to always be in a bad mood, I honestly thought she was suffering from depression~~ When I brought it up, she told me ‘TVXQ’s activities have been suspended’ through sobs~ Her dad heard and commented ‘Have they disbanded? I told you idol groups don’t last for long.’ Something in my daughter’s eyes changed and she started screaming at her ead. Screaming and crying her heart out all at the same time. ‘Who says they’re disbanding?!’

To all you fans, maybe you love TVXQ as much as my daughter does. Maybe they’re the first thing you think of. You’re people who are willing to sacrifice so much, everything, for TVXQ.. People have told my daughter that she’ll stop liking them once she’s older, that she’s only interested because they’re young and handsome, but she insists that it’s because of their talent, of their charm~~

In being a fan, I hope you treat your idol as your motivation and target so that you’re able to achieve the things you want in life.

As fans, I hope you’re able to make your idols proud. TVXQ are great kids, I thought it was just an infatuation at first, but now I sincerely believe in faith and determination. Please continue to protect your idols!

Don’t forget: In protecting those you love, you must also work towards making yourself a better person and make your idols proud.

There are lots of you out there who are high school students, university students or even working adults. Please be the best you can be and keep your faith for TVXQ. Loving someone is no simple feat, you’ll understand when you grow older. But watching you guys and seeing your love for them has made me realized how much you’ve grown as a result of this fandom. You’ve all really matured.

Finally, I’d like to thank TVXQ and to thank you Cassies (is that what you’re called?) You’ve really helped my daughter along the way. She’s changed so much. She now knows the meaning of determination, of faith and belief. Everybody hwaiting!

Yoochun’s Challenge: From Idol to Actor

Micky Yoochun’s Challenge: From Idol to Actor
- August 25, 2010 -

By Han Sang-hee

Park Yoo-chun, known as TVXQ member Micky, will take a new challenge as actor for his first-ever drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal.

Transforming from an idol to an actor can be tricky.
Not only does it require superb acting skills to wash away that idol image, but he or she must go through worries, criticism and also harsh self-discipline. Amid the numerous crossovers of young and determined stars, a particularly famous one is aiming to captivate viewers with his never-before-seen acting.

Dressed in “hanbok”, or traditional Korean clothes, TVXQ member Micky Yoochun (real name Park Yoo-chun) looked proud, yet a bit nervous to represent his first–ever drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” at a press conference held at the W Hotel, northern Seoul, last week.

The doll-faced 24-year-old will appear as Lee Sun-jun in the period drama and work with fellow actors Park Min-yeong, Song Joong-ki and Yoo Ah-in.

The soap is a “campus romance drama”, according to the production company, and will bring Korean history, comedy and romance to the small screen.

Korean period dramas have not only been popular here, but also overseas, and they tend to have certain patterns: traditional dress, ancient Korean vernacular, love triangles, and the inner struggle between personal goals and traditional traits.

“Sungkyunkwan Scandal” is no different. The heroine Kim Yoon-hee, played by Park Min-yeong, has been responsible for her household after her father died and brother became ill in the busy times of the Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910). She decides that the only way for her to not worry about food and money is to disguise herself as a man and try for the state examination and become a court official.

She enters Sungkyunkwan, or a Confucian Academy, to study and meets fellow classmates: the strict and handsome Sun-jun, the playboy Koo Yong-ha (played by Song) and the rough and wild Moon Jae-shin (played by Yoo).

The journey begins as Kim, a pretty-faced student in disguise, struggles to fulfill her dream to become an official and hopefully discover true love along the way.

The biggest concern is not the familiar storyline or good looking stars dressed in colorful hanbok, but the acting. The four main actors are relatively young ― all are 24 except for the 25-year-old Song ― and have not made lasting impressions in their acting careers as yet. Additionally, period dramas are known to be especially tricky due to the old-fashioned dialect and behavior.

Despite these worries, the drama’s producer Kim Won-seok expressed his confidence in working with the young actors, especially Park Yoo-chun.

“Park was already on the team when I decided to helm the drama. But if I had the chance to pick the actors again, I would have picked him. I know many people are looking forward to, and are also worried about his acting, but I can tell you all that he is doing great”, Kim said.

Park also had to deal with the interest and pressure put on him, though he did a pretty good job in keeping a straight face and calmly answering questions regarding his lack of acting experience.

“Of course, being my first work and all, I thought about my acting a lot. I think this was a chance where I discovered a new me. The staff were generous enough to pick me for the role”, he said smiling.

“I have been dancing for a long time, and I had a pretty tough time realizing that the martial arts sequences were not to be shown as choreography. I have been immersed in the drama and although it’s been tough with the weather and the bugs, it’s been fun”, Park added.

It was hard not to notice the enormous interest showering the star. Even the press conference was a bit overdone. The event seemed to have lost its true purpose and turned into a promotional circus. It included two fashion shows; one by 2009, 2010 Miss Korea contestants and models and another by the actors themselves. The hanbok display was, indeed colorful and beautiful, but there was nothing different from those seen in previous and even current historical series.

A preview screening is one of the most important channels that uncovers the gist of the drama and also help the press understand the storyline easier and faster. The 8-minute highlight video was not enough to bring out the overall vibe of the work. It took an hour and a half to finally bring out the actors and producer to the table for a Q and A session.

Micky Yoochun was introduced as “Park Yoo-chun” from start to finish, probably because he really wants to turn over a new leaf. The TVXQ member may have found it interesting to discover the actor within, but it will take a bit more than generosity and soul searching to spearhead a full-length drama, especially when all eyes are on him. Will he be able to shine in the spotlight? Fans will find out on Aug. 30 at 9:55 p.m.

Elle Girl Magazine: Changmin’s ultimate decision Part 3

Changmin’s Ultimate Choice Part 3
- August 5, 2010 -

1 / 4
Question 9

Q: When you pick a girl …
A calm (cool) one or a bright (cute) one?

A: Half-half “If I have to be honest … I want a girl who is calm but also cute! Greedy much?” as Changmin said, all staffs burst into laughter including the manager. “But if I really have to choose, then I think calmness is more important. Ideally I prefer her to have calmness side of 51%, and for a balance the brightness side of 49%” showing a detailed personal preference.

2 / 4
Question 10

Q: During an appointment …
The one who waits or the one who makes people waiting

A: The one who waits “Either work and personal appointments, basically I prefer to arrive earlier than the appointed time,” said the nice Changmin. As a note, for Elle Japon shooting, Changmin also popped out at the shooting scene 15 minutes before appointed schedule, surprising everyone on set.

3 / 4
Question 11

Q: When driving a car …
The careful type or full-speed type?

A: Neither “I occasionally drive carefully, but I’m never late to speed up when it’s needed.” such an honorable student answer. During days off or when he wants to refresh his mind, he’ll just go driving at once and he also drives alone in daily basis.

4 / 4
Question 12

Q: If appearing in World Cup soccer tournament
Forward or Defense

A: Defense “Forward’s pressure is a little bit too much. Defense doesn’t have such significant amount of responsibility (in term of scoring a goal), everyone’s attention is more to forward, thus piles them with lots of pressure” since Changmin is a natural sports lovers, he could sense the feeling of players on game. “Therefore, no matter how much getting hot I am supporting, I never blame the players nor jeer at them.”

- August 5, 2010 -

Yunho, Big Bang, Park Shi Hoo, Han Chae Young and Lee Da Hae have been chosen as the main cast for the promotional video by the Korea Tourism Organization, which will be aired worldwide, to show Korea as an attractive tourist destination.

Stars like Bae Yong Joon and Lee Young Ae, who have been the leading icons of the Hallyu wave up until now, will retire from the Korean PR battle and the next generation of Hallyu stars will enter.

TVXQ’s Yunho and Big Bang have been rising in Japan’s Oricon Charts and they are singers who make their income in Japanese yen. Female stars Han Chae Young and Lee Da Hae are following in the footsteps of Song Hye Gyo, Kim Hee Seon and Chae Rim to become the new “Chinese Market Killers”.

Initially, the proposal for this publicity video included Park Yong-Ha, but the plans have been changed due to his sudden death. “World Star” Bi, has also risen as a representative of Korea, but with the next generation of Hallyu stars, this plan will change.

For the promotional materials this time, it will feature the primary tourist locations as part of the story line, in the form of an omnibus. Each star will complete the filming of the mini-drama by the end of August and it is set to screen in major countries worldwide.

- August 1, 2010 -

A man with charm is ‘talk less, act more’

Jung Yunho is the interpreter of new generation, with mentality and spirit of youth, he is walking at forefront of time, to encounter the beauty of present and future.

What’s the most memorable event in your life?
My most memorable event, I believe was when I become a singer. At that moment I really felt fantastic. The first moment I stepped on stage, the first performance, those situations were vividly remembered till now. Everyone was crying out my name, I became the protagonist on stage. In fact, it was a very incredible thing to me. I believe I will never ever forget this first time in my life.

You are going to perform in musical, what do you think of it?
It seems to me a new world has arrived. Now I am preparing for musical adaptation of ‘Goong’ from drama version. Although it is also a performance on stage, but I can feel a big difference from standing on stage as a singer. Musical performances not only singing, but also need to practice dancing, and learn acting skills. It is a performance which mixes songs, dance and acting together. In order to show everyone my best appearance and attitude, I am now practicing hard, so please come and support my transformation into a musical actor, .

What kind of requirements do you think a charming man should have? Do you think you are a charming man?
The most important requirements for a charming man is talk less and more action. The men who can properly preserve and protect something which is valuable to them, this kind of men is attractive. It seems hard to assess myself! I don’t know whether I did well or not, but only know I have to work hard continuously and do well in my part.

What are your recent plans? What’s your impression of Hong Kong?
I am currently busy preparing for musical ‘Goong’ which will begin in September. Since I can perform with experienced actors, I have learned a lot from them. Besides that, I have to go to Japan to promote my drama ‘HTTG’ and DVD. Since there are a lot of promotions and public related activities, I often need to go back and forth between Japan and South Korea and become very busy. HTTG’s DVD ranked no.1 on Japan’s Oricon Chart, I totally suprised by everyone’s love and support… SMTOWN will start a world tour in August, so I am now preparing for it. I hope to meet everyone with a fresher and better look later, so please continue to love me.

About my impression of Hong Kong, I think Hong Kong is a gracious and convenient place. This time I come here for cover shoot, many fans are following me, and waiting for me at the airport, I fully feel their enthusiasm and support. I love the night view of Hong Kong, and the food is very delicious too, so every time I come to Hong Kong I can fully enjoy it before I go back.

What type of girls do you like?
I like girls who have lively and cheerful personality, as well as can take care of the others, and being confident, and can give me good advices oftenly.

JaeChunSu speaks openly about their complex emotions and new determination

Tohoshinki Trio Speaks Openly About Their Complex Emotions And New Determination
- August 1, 2010 -

In June, they held the concert “JUNSU/JEJUNG/YUCHUN THANKSGIVING LIVE IN DOME” at the two major Domes, and started breaking away from Tohoshinki. Junsu, Jejung and Yuchun have started their activities as a trio. At Tokyo Dome on 13 June, when they held their final concert, many reports spoke about how the trio cried while showing their love and thanks to the fans, showing their unwavering popularity.

Before embarking on the new stage, Junsu, Jejung and Yuchun went on their own journeys in search of themselves. Their honest words from their hard, and what they feel about the new stage, a real side of themselves are shown in the DVD “3hree Voices”, which was just released.

Junsu released his solo single “XIAH,” which did favorably, went to Australia for the first time. He thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful sea, admired the vast nature and was excited all the time, a total opposite from his normal calm self. “This is a time when I can look back on everything that happened since debut,” he said, talking about his current feelings.

After the recently ended drama “Sunao Ni Narenakute (Hard to say I love you)”(Fuji TV) and showing his acting skills in Japanese, Jejung headed to Canada. He enjoyed dog sledding, and drinking with the staff. Jejung, who has been working hard from Tohoshinki to the current solo activities, showed a fresh side as he went around.

And for Yuchun, he went back to his home country, Korea. He was born in Seoul, but grew up in America and went through a hard time. Returning to Korea alone to debut with Tohoshinki, and went through a turbulent route. He now revisits Korea “because this is the country I was born in,” he expresses. You can see his love and feelings for his home country, as well as determination for the new stage.

The three spent time in various places reflecting. Yuchun is shooting a drama in Korea, and other solo activities have started. As they show their honest appearance and words, we want to discover the passion they have been hiding in their heart.

Changmin’s photoshoot BTS for Elle Japon Magazine

Elle Japon – Changmin’s Shoot – Behind the Scenes
- August 1, 2010 -

Tohoshinki’s Changmin is on “Elle Japon” for the first time. He challenges the modeling of the edgy mod style, and we go behind the scenes for this fashion shoot! We’ll also be exposing secret photos taken from the shoot!

Changmin, who arrives 15 minutes before the shoot. (He looks unsure?) His own outfit for the day…black T-shirt and skinny pants. On his feet, a modern looking pair of buckled boots. This is undoubtedly a good style, tight and simple, and the staff’s expectations are high!

The shooting location, a gallery and event space set up in the middle of “Urahara”, called “VACANT BY NO IDEA.” Using old materials and vintage items to create a warm feel, it also accommodates a delicious vegan café, a definite stop while shopping!

Actually, before the Elle shoot, Changmin went to the Chanel Fashion show. (This photo was taken during that time.) The staff asked him about the talking point of that day, and he gestured his answer, which was the stole.

Also because this was immediately after the show, when entering the photoshoot location, the “Chanel” show was still a topic. “I’ve only watched one fashion show in China previously, but this Chanel show was definitely a highlight. The snowy mountain setting, and the use of fur on the clothing, just looking at it was enjoyable!” he said.

Changmin is wearing the best collection from the brands this season for the photoshoot. In the rack, from Prada to Bottega Veneta, Raf Simons and such top of the line clothes are on standby.

Changmin’s preparation starts immediately. Sitting at the special makeup stand, talking to the hair and makeup people, looking very relaxed. Then, he studied the “Elle Japon” magazine, paying special attention to the overseas celebrity snapshots.

For the first cut, he wore a military jacket from Burberry Blouson, to fit the chic Autumn fashion, Changmin’s expression had a gentle, mature look.

Although it seemed like the first cut was rather painful, once away from the camera his healthy, real smile appeared, and he generously posed for this camera.

The second cut challenged was Raf Simons. Changmin’s first reaction was, “A skirt!?” and was bewildered, but after he tried it, it fit nicely. The staff around too agreed that it wasn’t just anyone who could suit such clothes, and with the compliments, his look became more confident.

With the photographer Shingo Wakagi, he breezed through the second half. While looking at the polariod samples, Changmin works hard to absorb the detailed requests and advice.

Wearing the Bottega Veneta Racer Jacket, he showed a bit of a defiant look. The rocker style was arranged, and his “regent hair” a point to note. But there is a gap between this style and the usually “good youth” Changmin.

Between the shoot, Changmin kept doing tennis serving actions. 3 days before the shoot, he had an idea and started lessons, and is completely obsessed. Before that, he was also hooked on bowling, and was enjoying the chat, asking questions like “Do you have a new best score?”

From this shoot, the staff could see the change in model quality in Changmin. Of course, his style is good, and his movement and expression were also great. His look, and the way his exquisite hand movements, we were surprised that he wasn’t that different from a professional model!

For the special centerspread, a look from Prada was selected. “This is a styling i like! Knit layered on top of shirt is GOOD.” said Changmin. Being wrapped in knit, a warm expression appears in this cut. This was also the most popular in among the editorial department!

Until the last cut, Changmin still did his polaroid checks, he is truly serious about his work! Incidentally, in the hair department, the “soft-perm” styling received good response from the staff.

Also, these are the polaroids that he was checking. Before the actual shoot, these were used to check the lighting and concept. In the September issue of “Elle Japon,” we will be giving away Changmin’s autographed polaroids to 3 lucky people, please check it out!

The shoot ended successfully and the we go straight into the interview. It’s been 2 months since his last visit to Japan, “Although I’ve been waiting to come back, but I can’t speak Japanese!(anymore)” he lamented while replying. At some point, he tried to say “Hone Ni Itakunaru”(My bones are hurting) but instead said “Kotsu No Itakunaru”, using the wrong pronunciation,* causing everyone to burst into laughter.

*T/N: “Bone” = “Hone” in Japanese. Another way of pronouncing it is “Kotsu”, which actually means “Skill”

Meanwhile, on the drama that Changmin is starring in, that has been much talked about in Japan as well, he said “Because it hasn’t be aired yet, I cannot talk about it”. When asked if he could just tell us how he and his character are alike, “He is a B-type like me. Which means that we’re the type that goes all out for what we want.(Laughs)”

Then, when asked about his usual fashion policies, he replied “There is nothing flashy, its a simple style which revolves around denim. And I add hats, sunglasses or other small accessories.”

The interview details and Changmin’s intimate fashion story can be found on 8 pages in the September issue of Elle Japon!
